About · Ink Stains

Where craft meets engineering.

Ink Stains is a hybrid firm. On one side, we make things people can hold — engraved gifts, custom branding, printed work. On the other, we build systems that run businesses — websites, apps, ERPs, integrations. The two sides share the same studio, the same standards, and the same belief: everything we make is meant to last.

What we believe

Four ideas that shape how we work.

Belief 01

Listen before proposing.

Every project starts with us understanding what you actually do — not pitching what we want to sell. The brief you arrive with is rarely the brief that gets built. We dig into the real problem first, then we propose.

Belief 02

Adapt to you. Not the reverse.

Most firms force clients into their template, their methodology, their playbook. We do the opposite. The way your business operates is sacred — our job is to support it, not bend it. Custom is the default.

Belief 03

Honesty before invoice.

If your problem doesn't justify a custom build, we'll tell you. If a no-code tool fits, we'll point you there. If we're not the right partner, we'll say so. The relationship matters more than any single project.

Belief 04

What we make should outlast us.

An engraved piece should be heirloom-quality. A web platform should be maintainable for years by any developer who picks up the code. We don't build for “launch day” — we build for the decade after.

How we work

Three phases. No surprises.

Phase 01

We diagnose the real problem.

Every engagement starts with a free conversation. We ask the questions most firms skip: What does your day actually look like? Where do you lose time? Where does revenue leak? Who in your team has been quietly working around the system?

Most of the time, the symptom you came in with is not the actual problem. We find the real one before we propose anything.

Discovery and diagnostic phase

Phase 02

We design a solution that fits you.

Once we understand your reality, we propose. The proposal is specific — what we'll do, how long it takes, what it costs, who's involved. No vague “phase one of three” with hidden price tags. You see the full picture before you commit.

Sometimes the right answer is “don't build this — buy that off the shelf.” If that's the case, we'll tell you, even if it means we don't get the project.

Solution design phase

Phase 03

We deliver. Then we stay.

We work in short cycles with regular check-ins. You see progress weekly, not at the end. Adjustments happen along the way, when changes are still cheap.

After delivery, we're not gone. Every project includes 30 days of support, and most clients keep us on a relationship past that — for the next iteration, the next campaign, the next batch of engraved pieces.

Delivery and ongoing partnership phase

Two sides. One studio.

We work in two languages — the physical and the digital.

Most firms pick a lane. We didn't. The same studio that engraves a luxury bottle for a wedding gift also builds the e-commerce platform that ships it. The same team that designs your brand identity also writes the code for your website. Under one roof, with one standard of care.

Who we serve

Built for SMBs and startups that move.

We work best with small and mid-sized businesses with cash flow and the authority to make decisions without weeks of bureaucracy — and with startups that need to move fast and choose their early systems carefully.

We're based in San Diego and we serve the cross-border corridor — Chula Vista, Otay Mesa, Tijuana, San Ysidro — but distance isn't the limit. We've worked with clients across California, the U.S. southwest, and Mexico. What matters is fit, not geography.

We say yes to:

  • +SMBs with established revenue and decision-making authority
  • +Startups with funding and a real product hypothesis
  • +Cross-border operations needing bilingual partners
  • +Long-term relationships, not single transactions

We say no to:

  • ×Industries with ethical or political controversy
  • ×Clients looking for the cheapest quote on the market
  • ×Projects where we're asked to skip the discovery phase
  • ×Engagements where the brief is fixed and feedback isn't welcome

Where we work from

San Diego. Cross-border.

Our studio is at 2295 Main St, Suite 101, San Diego, CA 92154 — fifteen minutes from the Tijuana border, ten minutes from Chula Vista, five minutes from Otay Mesa.

Being here matters. The cross-border economy isn't a marketing angle for us — it's the daily context we operate in. Bilingual is the default, not an upcharge. Working across two legal frameworks isn't a complication, it's the baseline.

Let's talk

You've read what we believe.
Now tell us about you.

Every engagement starts with a free 30-minute conversation. No pitch. No slide deck. Just a real conversation about what you're trying to build and whether we're the right partner for it.
